Watching the Game at Bailey’s Smokehouse

I complain a lot about fall — it’s my least favorite season — but I have to admit it does have its moments.

Take yesterday; the sun was out, the air was crisp — ideal outdoors weather. My friend Rishi and I tackled a “moderate to strenuous” hike (according to the trail guide) at Harriman State Park, taking in the drop-dead gorgeous views at the top of the mountain.

From there it was off to Bailey’s Smokehouse in Blauvelt to watch our beloved Patriots squeak out a nail-biter over the Ravens.

When you’re at a bar watching a game, you kinda have to order wings. It’s almost an unspoken rule.

We got ours with hot buffalo sauce. Bailey’s also has a “screaming chicken” sauce, but I don’t think either of us were in the mood for that level of heat.

Rishi ordered a BarbeCuban sandwich, while I chose the BarbeReuben, a twist on the classic reuben with Bailey’s sliced brisket as the meat.

The tender, smoky brisket made for a very fine sandwich.

And what’s a football game without beer.  If it’s available, I will choose a pumpkin ale every time. Drank it last week at Rye Grill & Bar too. Can’t get enough of the stuff.

Hiking + pumpkin ale + smoked meats + a Pats victory equaled an all-around fine day. And no one even harassed us for being Boston fans.

If you missed the sweet corn souffle (a cross between corn bread and spoon bread, probably made with WAY too much butter) I will tell you to drop whatever you are doing, go back there right now and get some. That’s the kind of stuff you crave later on– you know what I’m talking about.

Completely forgot to order the souffle, which now I remember you had told me about, too. Sounds awesome. Will have to go back soon for another game to try some!
