Fun alternative: peach picking in the summer. It doesn't have the festive atmosphere, but it does have the fun of picking your own fruit. And no crowds!

There were definitely lots of fun looking activities for the kids, so I'm sure your son had a great time! I might try Stuart's next year too. It's about the same distance away. Thanks Siobhan!

Too funny. Last year, we went to Wilkens and enjoyed it. This year, we wanted to try something closer to home and we went to Outhouse Orchards this past Sunday...along with everyone else from the city and Westchester! Holy crap indeed...it was sooo crowded. That kinda killed the "back to nature" serenity that we were hoping for, but our son still had fun (he's 17 months old and they had tractors to climb and farm animals to see...what more could a kid his age want?). Next year, we're going farther north...maybe Stuart's (thanks Siobhan).

You should try Stuart's farm in Granite Springs next apple picking season. It's a family run orchard/farm and all the children live in homes throughout the property, it's like the Roloff's but without the little people. It's a smaller scale, but just as nice.
