I’m confused: Is this place called Sunshine Bagels or Sunshine Yogurt Doughnut Shop? The sign shows the former, but when you Google it, it seems to indicate the latter. For our purposes, we’ll stick with Sunshine Bagels.
If it’s fall, it means I must be prowling around for bagels again. Something about fall makes me want soup and bagels. Soup I understand. But bagels? Why is that?
Sunshine’s located in a busy little shopping strip across from the Starbucks in Ardsley. I nearly caused a riot popping out into the parking lot for a sec to snap the pic above.
On this day I ordered a favorite: onion bagel with lox, only I didn’t get cream cheese, opting instead for the lower fat (or so I hoped) tofu scallion spread.

Mmm… bagels and lox are made for each other, aren’t they? The bagel was pretty good — more dense than say H&R or Hand Rolled, and without the glossy crust, but with a pleasing chewiness — and just look at all those onions. Occasionally you order an onion bagel and it’s got like ten dried onions on it and you think, That is a sad onion bagel. Not a problem here — this bagel was covered with them.
Speaking of covered, get a load of the everything bagel.

My very sunshiney moment at Sunshine Bagels happened after I placed my order and the salesperson told me, “You get a free doughnut with your sandwich.” A free doughnut! That’s just, well that’s just the best thing ever. I went with cinnamon.

Lightly crisp on the outside, cakey on the inside, and smothered with powdered cinnamon that went everywhere when I sneezed. Messy, but well worth it.
Two bagels and a doughnut — sounds like an ’80s comedy starring Tom Selleck and Steve Guttenberg. Not bad eating on a Sunday morning.

I really enjoy reading your blog! I’m curious what their doughnut selection is like – are there a lot of varieties to choose from? Do you know if they make them in-store from scratch?

Hi CS! If I remember correctly, I believe there were around 15-20 doughnut varieties. I’m fairly certain they’re made in-house, but I’d have to double check that.
