This is going to be a half post… a quarter post, really. I met up with some people for drinks at Rye Grill & Bar, not expecting that we’d leave the bar area or order any food — but then decided to tote along my camera, just in case.
I really will do a full blown RG&B post at a later date when I eat a full meal and spend some time looking around; much like the food we ordered, this’ll be the “starter” post.
The new digs do look great — unrecognizable from the old RG&B, and several times as big. The downstairs bar area is wide and expansive, with the same Nantucket-y crowd that used to patronize the old place.
And here we go again — how long before all of us in Westchester require hearing aids? This is becoming a restaurant epidemic. It’s crazy loud at RG&B. The bar area wasn’t even completely full on this night, and yet we were all straining to hear. I don’t know what the noise level’s like on the dining room side, but if it’s anything like the bar, that’s a real problem.
Craig and his wife shared a grilled chicken sandwich with grilled zucchini and roasted peppers, which they said was excellent. We all shared a few starters, like the potato skins with cheddar and bacon.
Fried calamari.
And shrimp poppers.
Nothing too complicated, but both fried calamari and shrimp poppers can be bland if they’re not seasoned properly. These were well seasoned and not greasy. They revved up my appetite to the point that I ran home after we left and stuffed my face with dinner.
What do you all think of the new Rye Grill & Bar? Have you been impressed with the food?

A random video for the day: Love him or hate him (I think the guy’s a genius), there’s no disputing Sacha Baron Cohen’s utter fearlessness about pushing people’s buttons and putting himself in cringe-worthy situations. In this preview clip for Bruno, he’s in Jerusalem wildly confusing Hamas… with hummus.

Been to RG&B at least twice in the past couple of months. If you are going to dine, ask for UPSTAIRS, they usually keep the families with rug rats downstairs.
Also, they have a salad special to which I am already addicted. It’s mixed greens with the seafood du jour– grilled crusted salmon or tilapia, shrimp, scallops– it’s always changing. They throw some fruit on it, like mango and it’s just a great mellange of flavors.
The desserts are pretty outrageous, too.
Aren’t those potato skins tiny?

Good tip! There did seem to be a lot of families downstairs.
That salad sounds delicious. The potato skins were tasty, but yes, they were rather tiny. Not a whole lot of food when you’re sharing…

A colleague and I ate there one night in April–we were at the Rye Brook Hilton for a tradeshow–and really enjoyed the filet mignon sandwich. Try it sometime! I was very impressed with the selection of restaurants in that town–Morgan’s Fish House and Ruby’s Oyster Bar–especially since I was in town for 3 days.
