Bartender, Give Me a Root Beer Float Straight Up

You haven’t felt like the anti-007 until you’ve walked up to a bar and announced to the bartender, “I’ll have a root beer float to go.”

See, to place a take-out order at Pumpernickel you have to do it at the bar.  So I waded through a karaoke singer and sports fans watching the Lakers game to order my “drink”, quickly realizing how goofy it sounded.  Screw it, the other guys can have their Guinness.  This tough guy wanted a root beer float.

Doesn’t that look tasty?  Pumpernickel makes its own homemade, full-bodied root beer from a secret recipe, and they use homemade ice cream for the floats.  The vanilla ice cream was super smooth, and as it melted, the root beer developed the flavors of a fine cream soda.  Just a classic warm weather drink.

The only thing missing was a frosty mug.  Maybe next time I’ll sit at the bar and enjoy my root beer float in a mug like a real man.  Then I’ll eat a quiche.
