That’s a pic from dim sum at Aberdeen today.  My parents were in town this weekend, and I’m fairly certain I’m a few pounds heavier now than I was on Friday.

All parents love to feed their kids, and mine are no exception. No matter how far into adulthood you get, your parents, especially mom, will always worry that you’re slowly starving to death.  At Thanksgiving, my mom took a look at me at the airport and asked, “Have you lost weight?  You look thin.” When I order at a restaurant she’ll often say, “That’s not going to be enough for you.  You should order something else.” And before I drive home after a Boston visit, she’ll load up a cooler with food and ice packs like she’s sending me off to a desert island with Tom Hanks in Cast Away.

Needless to say, I ate well this weekend.  Today we were all about dim sum, and where better to go in Westchester than Aberdeen — in my opinion, the best Chinese restaurant in the area, hands down.

Apparently I’m not the only one who feels that way.  We arrived at 11:45 am, and by noon, a long line of hungry people had formed by the doors.

“There are a lot of Chinese in here,” mom observed.  You know what that means — the food must be good…

Here’s a look at the meal:

I’ll get the nasty one out of the way first — chicken claws.  This was all dad… mom and I are not fans.

Then things got rolling, starting with roast duck.

Roast pork buns.

Exceptionally tasty homemade noodles.  I forget what they’re called in Chinese, but they were thick and had a chewy bite.

Soup dumplings.

Silky rice noodle rolls filled with shrimp.

Stuffed bean curd skins.

Maybe my favorite dish of the day, tofu-stuffed Chinese eggplant in black bean sauce.  This was my first time eating this at Aberdeen, and it was delicious.

(That wasn’t even all of it — we also ate shrimp dumplings, pan fried turnip cake and beef ribs; I just got tired of taking pictures.)

We polished it all off, save for one turnip cake and a pork bun. Of course my parents gave me the leftovers to take home.  In their minds, I may not eat again for a week. That’s what’s great about parents — friends care about you deeply, but only your parents love you to the point of worrying whether you’re properly nourished.  After this weekend, oh, I’m nourished all right.  And then some.
