Dustin Hoffman Shops at Zeytinia and So Should You

Yes, it’s true.  Not to out him, but a friend of mine ran into Dustin Hoffman at Zeytinia Gourmet Market in Croton a few weeks ago.  Does he live in the area?  Is he filming a movie?   As a movie buff I’m very curious about these things.  Anyway, Rain Man’s presence aside, Zeytinia’s got a lot of other things going for it, like its wide assortment of produce, meats, cheeses, breads, oils, natural and imported foods and prepared dishes.  It’s a bit like Whole Foods, but with more reasonable prices and a Mediterranean slant.

Today there were food vendors outside giving away free samples.

Inside I found some huge Asian pears for only $.99/pear (I usually pay at least double that).   The gourmet salad bar called to me, so I grabbed some three-bean salad and pasta salad with feta.

If you’re in a rush or have an aversion to cooking, you can pick up wraps, paninis, prepared dishes and extremely fresh looking sushi.

On one side of the store is a full service deli, grill bar and a great selection of smoked fish.

There’s even a guy playing guitar in the store’s cafe!  Now that’s civilized.

Live music, fresh food and Dustin Hoffman—  all reasons to shop at Zeytinia…

I discovered the Englewood, NJ location of Zeytinia in May. I love that place–the salad bar, desserts (great red velvet cupcake), and especially the Zeytinia panini. Unfortunately, the last time I went there I discovered that they no longer stock the Honest Teas (Honey Green Tea is my fave.) That was the only place in my county that I have seen that tea since ShopRite stopped carrying it a few years ago. What’s up with that? Why?

Hmm. Coca-Cola bought a large stake of Honest Tea back in Feb. Wonder if that caused some distribution changes? Looks like it’s still sold at a bunch of stores in Jersey, including Food City Markets in Englewood Cliffs.

The best part of Zeytinias is the fresh fruit and vegetables at lower than supermarket prices. sweetpaprika.wordpress.com
PS: Don’t give up on gazpacho just yet. Check out my Roasted vegetable gazpacho with the added bonus of a “tomatini,” aka a bloody Mary martini.
